Avro 504K
The Avro 504K, registration ZK-ACU serial #A202, was an imperial gift to the New Zealand Permanent Airforce and arrived in New Zealand in the 1920s, where it spent its military career at Wigram Airforce Base. Well known aviators like Charles Kingsford Smith, Captain George Hood, Lieutenant John Robert Moncrieff all feature in the log book. At the end of its military career it was sold and ended up in the Taranaki region where in the 1930's it had a major accident and was never rebuilt. The aircraft was restored keeping it as original as possible with such details as hand spliced control cables, original rotary engine, BSF hardware and covered in linen.
The restoration was completed by Antique Aero Engineering and made its first flight on 2nd April 2009 and debut at the Classic Fighters Air Show, Omaka, NZ.
